It isn't the kernel since you can't see the kernel running.  As I said
previously, I think the ramdisk (INITRD) is corrupted.  Note the
"incomplete write".  Whether is was corrupted on upload to VM, to your
workstation, or at the source is TBD.  If it were at the source, then
everyone would have the same issue.
