IDENTITY users are able to logon to all the systems in the SSI cluster at the same time. They also get their R/W minidisks from the SUBCONFIG instead of the USER section. That means that those minidisks (a) don't have to be on shared DASD, and (b) are NOT PROTECTED from cross-system LINKs. And *that* means that they can logon even if there is an issue with the SSI cluster communications. So the decision of whether to make a guest an IDENTITY or a USER is completely dependent on how you intend to use the guest and its resources.
