Unsolicited status notifications are messages from the SAN indicating that something has happened. Eg a target port disappeared because someone unplugged a link, or storage array logged out of the fabric. They might be lost if: there are lots of them coming very quickly the linux system is very busy the channel is very busy
Losing these isn't necessarily a problem, but it indicates that some piece of your infrastructure isn't very healthy.
