The Linux guest should not be seeing a machine type of 1090.  It should be 
seeing whatever you have defined for the guest.  In the case of Ubuntu, you're 
going to need a zEC12 or higher since that is the level at which they compiled 
their code.  That means a machine type of one of the following:

2828
2964
2965
