I have a question on the VM Workshop. This is the first year I have decided to go for the Dorm option. I am to arrive Wednesday, I can't find on the website the check-in information. Can someone point me in the right direction for that information?
-----Original Message----- From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mike Walter Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2016 10:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: 2016 VM Workshop REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN for next week's Thu/Fri/Sat June 23/24/25 conference Importance: High Don’t panic, you have not missed it (yet)! The 2016 VM Workshop attendee and sponsor Online Registration is still open, and there will be on-site walk-in registration using credit card via Paypal or by cash or check. And don’t miss the z/VSE content! The 2016 VM Workshop will be held Thursday-Saturday June 23-25, 2016 at Rutgers University, Busch Campus Center. 604 Bartholomew Rd, Piscataway Township, NJ 08854. This year’s VM Workshop is the sixth since being reanimated at Ohio State University in 2011. The registration fee is still only $100 per attendee (including sponsor attendees). The May 31 registration deadline has passed for dorm room housing, and for guaranteed delivery of a polo shirt in your size, but a few spare polo shirts were ordered in popular sizes - maybe you will be one of the lucky ones at the registration table. All paid attendees should plan to attend the Thursday evening Gala Reception and Banquet Dinner. WHO: All z/VM, Linux on z Systems, and z/VSE friends WHAT: Choose from multiple concurrent presentations packed full of up-to-the-minute technical sessions for all expertise levels of z/VM, Linux on z Systems, z/VSE; and from Hands-On Labs including: •• z/VM 6.3 SSI Installation -or- Migration -or-Upgrade Hands-On Lab, (You choose which path to follow) •• Linux for z Systems Installation Hands-On Lab, •• Intro to Rexx Hands-On Lab, •• Unlock your z/VSE data and applications for the Mobile World Hands-On Lab. A preliminary session list of submitted session ideas including many z/VSE sessions and speakers from IBM Germany is posted at: Preliminary Session List. This list is suitable for sharing with managers, and includes Connor Krukosky’s very popular session: “There’s a z890 in My Basement”! WHEN: Sessions are presented beginning Thursday morning JUNE 23 until about 1 PM EDT (or so) Saturday JUNE 25. Wednesday June 22 is reserved for VM Workshop Volunteer Committee site preparation and lab setup; if you are interested in helping, just show up and we’ll put you to cheerful, fulfilling work! ☺ WHERE: •• Rutgers University, Busch Campus Center. 604 Bartholomew Rd, Piscataway Township, NJ 08854. See: 2016 VM Workshop Site Map Location, sponsor information, and registration details for the 2016 VM Workshop, and much more have been posted to: 2016 VM Workshop Links WHY: Previous VM Workshops have been referred to by the small-minded as: 'a large number of system programmers with some limited adult supervision' (do you really want to miss this!??). Expect another wonderful "up close and personal" workshop with great content, terrific camaraderie, and professional networking. Come to meet VM old-timers... and *future* z/VM old-timers while learning the latest technical z/VM, ‘Linux on z Systems’, and z/VSE details. Don't know where to start with Linux on z Systems? About VM Workshop Is a great place to start! PRICE: STILL UNCHANGED from the previous six years, **ONLY $100 per attendee**. This is the best bargain out there for z/VM and ‘Linux on z Systems’ education, and is quite reasonable for anyone paying their own way. •• Regular attendees and sponsor attendees: The $100 registration fee for regular and sponsor attendees includes: o access to all sessions and hands-on labs; o if registered before the already-passed May 31 deadline above, a snazzy 2016 VM Workshop polo shirt (not just a cheap T-shirt like those high-priced conferences); o attendance at the Thursday evening at the Gala Reception and Banquet Dinner, o and almost all other meals (Friday night is left free to explore the host site area on your own). •• Full-time Students: A $10 registration fee includes access to all sessions and hands-on labs. •• Spouse attendees: A $0 registration fee provides: an optional means of purchasing a dorm room bed (deadline and pricing as described above), and/or optional attendance at the Thursday evening Gala Reception and Banquet Dinner. HOW: Registration is now available online, please check it out soon at: Click Here to go directly to the Registration page (that page has links for pretty much everything you’ll need). ‘Live’ z/VM-hosted webservers are standing by to take your registration! Paypal is used for all payments so that we never store, or even see, any credit card payment information. PARTICIPATE (yourself!): •• Compete in the historical (occasionally hysterical) VM Workshop "Ugly Hawaiian Shirt" contest for a chance to win a treasured, but ugly prize! (B.Y.O.U.H.S.) •• The VM Workshop began as a way for VM systems programmers to share… • what they did at their site, • tools they had written, and • what they had learned. Please do your part to help us return to that pattern of mostly USER-PRESENTED sessions. Don't have enough to fill an hour? No problem... read more about presenting, or submit the idea (or multiple ones!) at: Submit a Session Idea. The Volunteer Committee will merge multiple shorter presentations into full hour sessions. Don't be shy, we're all your z/VM, Linux on z Systems, and z/VSE friends. No ‘flaming’ is tolerated, you won’t find a more intimate, more friendly group before which to try out public speaking. Place this event on your calendars, and please join us at Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ. Don't miss this incredibly inexpensive, educational, and fun event!
