Hi,

here is a little information about the openSUSE Tumbleweed effort.

As Mark Post already mentioned, openSUSE Tumbleweed is a rolling
distribution. This has been started several years ago, but because the
automatic QA system did not work it has not been released too often.
You still could it get from the directory Mark mentioned, but that was
just the state as is without testing.

I have been trying to improve the situation, and thanks to some
friendly folks at SUSE, openQA is working with this distribution again.
Find the current results from openQA at
https://openqa.opensuse.org/group_overview/34?limit_builds=20

You can now get the distribution from the official places:

http://download.opensuse.org/ports/zsystems/tumbleweed/iso/

The online repositories with more packages are found here:

http://download.opensuse.org/ports/zsystems/tumbleweed/repo/oss/
http://download.opensuse.org/ports/zsystems/tumbleweed/repo/non-oss/

Note, that since this is a rolling distribution, updates are typically
directly integrated in the latest ISO images and repositories.
Therefore there is no update channel.

As a side effect of this distribution now going through controlled
channels again, other openSUSE features have been enabled as well. Most
prominently, you can access a number of containers for s390x from
https://registry.opensuse.org/

You might want to filter for "^opensuse/factory/zsystems/images"

For me, one of the more important things with these containers is, that
they are built automatically, and you are free to get all the details
regarding what software and licences are used as well as the build logs.
This is not so much a technical issue, but a legal one, and quite
important for a compliant use.

The purpose of Tumbleweed is to support developments and all the latest
and greatest features available. This is quite in contrast to "Never
touch a running system" by doing updates all the time. We have had 11
Tumbleweed releases now since February, and if you think about using
this distribution, you should also think about a sustainable qa
and update concept.

So, if you are kind of adventurous and like to test new developments,
feel free to go for Tumbleweed on s390x.
