Hi All, I have migrated a guest from SLES12 to SLES15 SP1. This guest should be very quiet as there are no applications running in there. However, compared to the SLES12 version CPU load is higher (though it’s still very low) but also it’s now 100% of the time on Q3. So some process is keeping the guest busy all the time. The SLES12 version was on average less than 20% in queue and only in Q1. I try to find out what service is responsible for keeping the guest busy but so far I haven’t found a way to find out what keeps the machine active.
In powertop v1.13 I get the message: No detailed statistics available; please enable the CONFIG_TIMER_STATS kernel option This option is located in the Kernel Debugging section of menuconfig (which is CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL=y in the config file) I guess powertop v2.11 doesn’t show processes for the same reason. In v2.11 I only get an overview of Device stats. After exiting powertop I see a couple of messages: modprobe cpufreq_stats failedLoaded 0 prior measurements Devfreq not enabled glob returned GLOB_ABORTED Leaving PowerTOP I have installed the oprofile package but operf just displays an error: Your kernel's Performance Events Subsystem does not support your processor type. What can I do to monitor the activity of processes in the guest?
