only thing that pops to mind immediately is to make sure you're not limited
by a single CPU  thread. Similar issue can be seen when comparing a single
thread transfer over a HiperSocket vs a dedicated OSA in a CPU
unconstrained system.

Maybe try comparing multiple processes running in parallel ?
