I had not planned on addressing this right now as I have a lot of work going
on. But since the issue has been raised, I'll provide more details.

I've been in the process of migrating all of Marist's LISTSERV lists over to a
Linux on X based LISTSERV for the last year. Marist runs over 8000 lists just
for internal communication. The last lists to move are the public lists, like
this one. In many ways, these are the trickiest to move since there are so
many people involved. I don't have a date for this list to move, other work
keeps getting in the way.

The benefits are that we will be on a up to date version of LISTSERV and on a
supported platform. Marist will continue to run LISTSERV for the foreseeable
future given our dependence on it for the school's culture.

The negative, at least for public lists like this, is that the web interface to
the logs will no longer be available. LISTSERV has a native web interface, but
it requires a login account and we are not making that interface publicly
accessible. The logs and previous postings will be available via the LISTSERV
email interface, which works as it has always done. There is also a challenge
of converting the old logs to work with the new LISTSERV on Linux. They aren't
compatible formats.

I turned off the current web search of logs because of the continuous bots
going through all the logs from all the lists. I also wanted to see if anyone
actually used or cared about being able to get to them. So far, I have heard
just one complaint. I can turn it back on for now.

To address Barton's question. I am not asking for, nor seeking to get rid of
this list from Marist. It is true that Marist's commitment to the Z platform
has changed (it is a very complex situation). However, my commitment has not.
However, I also cannot control what others do and if Barton, or anyone else,
wants to start up another list, they are free to do so.

The question about the logs is interesting, however. Rather than trying to
convert years worth of old logs to be compatible with the new LISTSERV, perhaps
an archive of them somewhere else would be a good idea? For this list, there
are over 300 logs, going back to 1998 (they are by month). If that is of
interest, contact me directly and we can discuss it.
