To Whom It May Concern,
Hello! My name is J.R. Pena. I'm a third year student at the
University of the Incarante Word in San Antonio, Texas. I actually
discovered ELKS last summer, when I was searching for small distributions
of Linux. I have to admit that this was the first time that I discovered
Embedded Systems. However, it was not until now did I actually find out
what they are and how Linux is being implemented on them.
In regards to ELKS, I have to say that I'm impressed. I've been able
to run the ELKS 0.75 image disk successfully on my 286 Tandy laptop,
directly on my 486DX4 120 MHz system, and on the 486 system using Monkey
Linux/muLinux with the DOSemu environment. However, the ELKS environment
lacks a lot of functionality, namely documentation, man pages, full
multi-user support, telecommunications, TCP/IP software, and general
applications. Granted, I realize that most of you are probably aware of
this already. But I just that the development continues. So, don't give
up! Hopefully, ELKS will surpass anything that Andrew Tannenbaum did!
Hehe :)
By the way, I like to say that at least one mainstream Linux
distributor, Cheap Bytes, is actually including ELKS with a number of
small Linux distributions. Yes, that's right! So, be sure to order the
Stampede Linux Beta with TinyLinux CD-ROM disc. Be sure to get it now!
After all, the disc is only $1.99!!
(Please don't think that I'm advertising Cheap Bytes. I have no
affliation with them, whatsoever.)
On a side note, ELKS is acutally making some headway. So, be sure
to check otu the article "Eight Full Bits of Linux," by Aron Hsiao. By
all means, the article is pretty good and I think it gives good
recognition to the ELKS developers! You can check out the article at
http://linux.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa011598.htm?terms=ELKS&COB=home,
if you haven't done so already!
Before I end this letter, I have just one small request to make.
Would it be possible if someone could compile the shell utilities, the
the TCP/IP utilities, as well as that basic terminal program? And if so,
please archive the files and let me know when they are done. I'd be happy
to post them on my website! Thanks for your time!

                                        Sincerely yours,
                                        J.R. Pena
