thats true, but you only need ghostscript if you want to send PostScript
output to a non-postscript printer. But you can also make a very simple
PostScript filter for text-only printing on a laserwriter, like mpage. All
you need to know is the paper size, and it takes only a few lines.
You don't need to render your output on screen, the printer does the job.
If you're interested I can show you.
I haven't tried yet to build pcl output but it shouldn't be very
difficult too .
