Does anyone know if there is source code on the internet for a BIOS?

doesn't matter how detailed it is, all I want to know is basically
what is
done.

I'd like to begin building an embedded board that can rom boot FreeDOS
and
with some work (I heard it doesn't work yet) ELKS.

Has anyone ever done this?  If you could give me some links pointing
me to
the right direction that would be great!
