Hi folks on the Linux-Abit mailing list!
I've got a simple question:
Does the BP6 BIOS (NJ) really implement Intel's MPS 1.4 ?
Background:
For the time being, I really do not care that much about MPS 1.4 because a) I'm
running the BP6 with a SINGLE CPU only (just bought a single Celeron 400 to get
an overall impression of the board), and b) Linux supports both MPS 1.1 and 1.4.
BUT: Just for fun I compiled the 2.2.13 kernel (SuSE 6.3) with SMP support
enabled to see what happens.
No matter what the BIOS says about the MPS setting (I switched between the
settings 1.1 and 1.4 several times), the kernel always reports MPS 1.1. I
checked the source file smp.c to see if it was a string formatting error, but
everything's fine there.
So what does it mean ?
I came up with the following possibilities:
a) the board isn't MPS 1.4 compatible all
b) the board is, but BIOS version NJ (the latest, after PW has been withdrawn)
is not although it pretends to be
c) the MPS version detection in kernel 2.2.13 is flawed
d) the MPS version cannot be determined with only one CPU installed.
Any suggestions ?
TIA,
Bernhard
