Performance testing on my non-overclocked bp6, 500MHz dual celerons,
latest stable bp6 BIOS (NJ), kernel 2.2.14, latest IDE patch from
Andre, and a 40GB Maxtor drive shows a 10 to 1 performance drop by
turning off DMA. This is soooooooo depressing. Should I just buy a
Promise66 card?

swix:~# hdparm -t /dev/hdg
/dev/hdg:
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in  2.60 seconds = 24.62 MB/sec

swix:~# hdparm -d 0 /dev/hdg
/dev/hdg:
 setting using_dma to 0 (off)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)

swix:~# hdparm -t /dev/hdg
/dev/hdg:
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in 26.89 seconds =  2.38 MB/sec
