I did exactly this, with no performance benefit. Actually, I first set
it to the wrong, non-prefetchable, bank, and got a weird display. It
still worked well enough for me to gracefully close the X session :-).
Anyway, is there a good way to find out if the MTRR is helping
performance? I think that X11perf is very processor intensive, and
that's masking the MTRR benefits on a dual 500 machine.
