He appeared to have (possibly) solved his problem, as his hdparm results
indicate ATA66 speeds now. But I am going to RMA my board for a refund
if possible, and get an Asus or cheaper Gigabyte board (unless I hear of
some problems with it) and get some 370 to Slot 1 cards. I was getting
some lockups even after swapping the video card for a Viper AGP (old V330.)
After locking in X, it would lockup either on the DMI configuration check,
and also during fsck of my SCSI drive. It would lock around 98% during the
group summary check, so I bailed and straced the operation while following
the fork() and it would lock on an mmap(). I didn't write it down though,
I can't see it being a drive or card problem. Everything worked fine (even
now as I run on my old Pentium 233 and TX board. Locks were with QQ and NJ
for record.
Oh well... No more Abit for me! I think they have tainted their product
line and will lose many future customers with this.
