Unfortunately this is your answer. It will even lockup using PIO mode.
It also locks up under Windoze, so it's not a "linux driver problem".

Although Andre has said it's a fault of the BP6 motherboard engineering,
there are people who have the same problem with HPT366 add-on cards on
uniprocessor systems on different motherboards.

I don't know if HPT370 has fixed these hardware design flaws, but I can
say I won't risk getting burned again -- it's all Promise controllers for
me from now on.
