[LINUX-ABIT] Creative Soundblaster Live 1024 Value - Driver SMP capable?

Whilst configuring this sound card with Yast2 in SuSE 7.1, I've found after
a few seconds of the test music playing, that the system stops responding,
though the sound carries on playing a short section.

Has anyone success with this card in an SMP configuration?

I'm using a BP6, and would like to know whether it's worth persevering.
Perhaps it's just because some module needs recompiling with SMP enabled.  I
believe that SuSE's using Alsa, though it may be that some Creative binary
only module gets loaded.
