the ide channels would reset or hang in mid xfer, and eventually the
reiserfs/raid0 combination i had going on a pair of 7200rpm wd's
(hde/hdg) got to the point where fsck.reiserfs would panic my system.

this was with 2.4.4, i think. perhaps even -ac3. it was recent, like 3
weeks ago.
i was pretty careful when i set this up to avoid sharing interrupts (the
machine had 3 NICs and a bttv device before i ripped it all apart), but
even now the experience is just a bad memory. very bad.

BP6ers who OC are (rightfully) unpitied when things go bad, but i have
never noticed a flakiness problem become less pronounced at 366MHz than
at the 506MHz (92MHz FSB) i have run from the beginning nearly two years
ago. and i would expect the PCI/IDE bits to be even less stressed at
92/3 than at 66/2.

btw every 2.4 kernel that i have installed on BP6 appears to ignore
append="noapic" (though it does seem to work on VP6's).
