I am upgrading components in my PB6 system, and I'd like someone to recap the PCI slot puzzle solutions and recommendations. I currently have 3 bussmaster PCI cards installed: SB16 PCI in slot 1, Adaptec 2906 SCSI in slot 2, and an SMC 1122 (for a cable modem) in slot 4. I have an old ISA video card, and an ISA phone modem that I recently pulled out (it uses the physical space that a slot 5 PCI card would need). Slots 4 and 5 can only have one bussmaster card between them. Slot 3 shares an interupt with the HPT 366 disk controller. I'm not using the HPT yet, but I will be. I'm guessing that the only thing that should use slot 3 is a better disk controller instead of using the HPT. I think slot 1 shares an interupt or something with the AGP slot. After I install an AGP video card, what should go in slot 1? Which cards should I have in which slots for best reliable performance? What if I want to add another bussmaster card? Presumably network card should be replaced with a non bussmastering card, or the sound card should be replaced by an ISA card. What would be the best choice?
