Many thanks for your e-mail and expressed interest in volunteering online.
Anyone who has the time and the desire to contribute to development causes;
has regular, reliable access to a computer and the Internet; and has skills
and experience that might be of value to others is a great candidate for
online volunteering. Online volunteers undertake a variety of assignments
for organizations through NetAid: translations, research, web design, data
analysis, database construction, proposal writing, editing articles, online
mentoring, publication design, moderating an online discussion group, or any
other services that can be done through computer networks.
Skills needed of online volunteers can include knowledge of a language in
addition to English, expertise in a particular subject (teaching young
people, computer networks, human resources management, newsletter design,
research, etc.), expertise in a particular profession (law, education,
graphic design, etc.), and experience collaborating with others online.
The NetAid web site provides a number of resources to help you get started,
including a self-evaluation, and tips for choosing the right assignment.
