http://tuxmobil.org/asus.html Linux on an ASUS Degatto (D1) The ASUS Degatto is a Desktop Replacement - a portable PC which has no internal battery, and uses a non-mobile CPU. Manufacturer page here. It's built around the SiS 650 chipset. Here in the Philippines, some dealers will sell it without Windows, which is a big savings. I installed Red Hat Linux 9 from CD. No surprises. The video card was detected as a Generic VESA device. The sound system was properly detected as i810 compatible. I read this very detailed page by the SiS driver maintainer and upgraded my driver sis_drv.o. I did not have to use his XF86Config file, as redhat-config-xfree86 did the trick. I'm now running at 1024x768 on the 14" edition of the LCD. The onboard Broadcom bcm4401 Ethernet was not detected on installation. I found this discussion which pointed me to the Broadcom-supplied driver. While the manufacturer-provided driver is a hack, the new driver being developed is for kernel 2.5 only. The PCtel onboard modem cannot be run with the sound card at the same time. This stops me from using it. I get the "modem not responding" error as described in the FAQ. The PCMCIA slot is working, which I use for a modem card when I have to dial out. I haven't tested the USB2 and IEEE 1394 ports. The maintainer of acpi4asus added support for the chipset when I submitted my info. I have only tested the LCD Brightness support. --- ATek <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > salam, > ada rekan-rekan yg sdh pengalaman pake desknote Asus > D1? bisa diinstall > linux ngga ya? distro apa?
