What distribution have you tried?
Do you know the meaning of the word "manual" ? Just read a damn manual
and you'll know what a default installation of Linux can really do for
you!

It definately does in Mandrake 7.1, I was using the feature just a week or so
ago. When you select the "Check Dependencies" checkbox it pops up a window to
tell you which packages are missing. This is using kpackage.

True, it's slower, but who cares? It's NVidia's fault, they should
release a damn open source driver.

I am always amazed that people on both sides of the OS
debate tend to critisize and hate the same posters. And
the really goofy part is that these posters usually go on
to state that it is some proble with 'everyone else' that
causes them to be hated. Wouldn't want to get
introspective for a second. Self-realization might kill
somebody with that big of an ego.

I don't think so. Your the one that claimed your ISP is contractually bound
to provide you service, merely because you have a positive balance on your
account.
I stated that any ISP can suspend or delete an account for any reason they
like except (possibly) for a very narrow set of reasons having to do with
discrimination. And there's probably no legislation for even those reasons.
Internet access through an ISP is not a "right" even if your paid up, you
are logging in at the discretion of your provider, and they can refuse
service at any time for any reason they like. If they don't like your
hairstyle they can cancel you at will, even if your paid up for a year!
For someone claiming to have such a firm understanding of law 101, when do
you plan begin demonstrating it?

Oh puhlease - I have been using them religiously since 3.64, you haven't a
clue. I contribute news to one of the most popular nvidia fan sites too. You
haven't a clue. They are solid.
>
> Tell me, dresden, could NVIDIA or microsoft possibly have any flaws at
all?
of course. I would never claim otherwise - but I'll point to real flaws
instead of made up ones. Example: The nvidia driver do not properly set
monitor refresh rates in DirectX or OpenGL. You can fix the DirectX problem
though registry patches but the OpenGL needs to be driven by the software.
The fault lies either with nvidia or MS but both point fingers at each
other - so, that's not cool.
Also, in Q3A, for the longest time everyone thought there was a bug in the
nvidia drivers under W2K regarding "brightness" - turns out it was in Q3A
itself, the overbrightbits toggle was incorrectly implemented. it's been
fixed in version 1.25. No one is perfect, but I don't make shit up just to
put something down - I use the facts - much more effective that way.

Agreed that earlier beta drivers for W2K were sometimes unstable - but...
they were BETA drivers :) Personally I am unaware of released reference
drivers having any problems. I'm using the detonator 3's myself without a
single problem.

I've talked to Brandon quite a few times. His actual quote was that they
release stable versions FIRST then tweak for performance afterwards and go
into a loop. Stability, then some more speed, then focus on fixing issues
that might have come up from the tweak, then return to speeding them up.
Seriously, go read all the nvidia sites and see the cycle. Do you ever
wonder why EVERY single beta release is benchmarked so fanatically. We can
tell from whether or not it's sped up if it's a stability release or speed
release. You tell me to look up more information - I point that finger back
at you. SURE You'll find people having trouble with their drivers, of
course. Every card/driver has it's issues - but nvidia has fewer by
percentage (there are a LOT more nvidia cards out there than any other card
type so in simple volume there'll likely be more nvidia reports). I DO read
newsgroups about nvidia and what I'm happy to say is that while I do see bug
reports I also note plenty of fixes and "upgraded to this version and that
new game is working now." Unlike 3dfx and ATI (do I dare mention Matrox) -
nvidia releases driver updates fast and frequently - they make it work. They
have the best W2K drivers out there today, bar none. That (and their
chipsets OWN you) is why I use nvida cards exlusively.

Jesus, maybe I need to rethink.
Of course, having one personality out of your three dozen
or so agree with me doesn't make me feel all that bad. If
the rest of them show up in agreement, maybe I'll change
my mind ;-).
I don't know if you noticed or not, but the number of my
posts in here have been cut way back lately. It's just
not enjoyable anymore. This seems more a place for kooks
and wackos on both sides of the debate to show up and see
how many lies and how much garbage they can throw at
eachother. It's kind of depressing. And if I thought for
a minute that COLA gave an accurate sample of what the
rest of humanity was like, I would, in a heartbeat, slit
my writsts, and try to get the knife to my jugular before
I bled to death.

They sold FANTASICALLY but the company closed down. THAT'S why there was a
limited run and the figure wasn't 500.

http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/p3p.htm - show me the
PIII666 on that list?
yes, I know what your applications tell you - 666 is closer to it's real
speed but that's not what you've got. Does your mustang have a 5.0 liter
engine or 4.87?

But you said you didn't.
