The open court testimony was that if the OEM did not agree to ppl they
had to pay full street price for the OS. MS has been good at keeping
secret the actual prices charged each OEM, but according to one report
the ratio was on the order of 50 to 1. So technicaly you could claim
that the OEMs weren't required to sign the ppl. They were just given the
option of signing or going broke. IBM testified at the trial that MS
gave them a similar choice : drop OS/2 or pay full street price for MS
operating systems.

I have never claimed to be an expert. And have, in many threads stated so
(see some of the threads with Rex). Newsgroup help takes hours to days for
responses. It took just as long for me to find the answer than it would
have taken to get help on a newsgroup. And yes, I tried IRC (several
different channels on different networks), and was kicked for asking a
stupid question.

I have to agree, the site is definitely NOT something I would link to if I
had anything to do with it's creation! Hopefully the person isn't using the
design as an example when marketing their talent.
Nothing like forcing a right scroll at lower resolutions for that third (60
point?) "Linux!" Is it even legal to display a 60pt character online? If not
I hope the creator recieves cruel and unusual punishment for the offence!
Also the invisible "......." which are forcing the right scroll will get the
site automatically banned at most major search engines. Same color text and
background are REALLY frowned upon by the indexing bot, so much so that it
usually bans the whole root url.
Whoever you are - your definitely not helping your cause with that site.

Last time I bought a new car I did just that. A Holley 4bbl vs. the
standard 2bbl. I got a price differential( cost of installed 4bbl - cost
of 2bbl). That won't work today because cars no longer have
carbureators. But I refuse to buy anything post '94 without a full
source code listing and a Linux interface. I've been stranded in the
desert one too many times, and seen my friends stranded on the
interstate or at work, due to Detroits equivalent of the BSOD.

An OS is not required for a PC to do useful work. I frequently replace
the ROM in PCs to run a single program over and over. In fact back
before PCs it was a hard sell getting customers to buy an OS for their
computers. A boot loader at most was all anyone wanted.

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the Linux world that will 100 percent
emulate MSOffice. Nothing at all.
THe Linux toys are a joke. Try them for yourself and see how well your
presentations translate.
When the rest of the world is running Office, why should you run some
half assed wannabe?
Is your job worth it?

Well I'll admit that the USA ain't doing too well these days
especially considering Gore and Bush, but compared to where he lives
it is a paradise.
I don't enjoy paying $14.00 for breakfast in Germany..

So your definition of success is that 1 and 2 are true, correct?
So then the indicators of this would be number of users stagnating or

So do you know if the above is happening? Care to give examples?

been before it even has been a babe.

Ask 1000 people at random on the corner of Wall Street and Broadway
what they are running on their desktops and see what they say.
A major University in NYC actually did a similar study and the results
were less than overwhelming for Linux. In fact quite a number of re
spondee's wrote in on the ballet "What is Linux"?
I think that says it all.
You think you are going to sell Linux to Pig Farmers in South Dakota?
