Totally unrelated. uK means making a two-tiered kernal in which the
traditional kernel calls are written using calls to the micro-kernel.
For example, both kernal calls for both general memory-page allocation
and I/O buffer allocation would eventually resolve to calls to the
same micro-kernal routine.
One REAL advantage of micro-kernals is that you can run multiple
OS's on the same machine simultaneoulsly.
Thus...you can have up and running both a production version
of an OS, and one or more R&D versions....or, you can run
two totally distinct OS's simultaneously, as long as they run
on top of the same micro-kernel.
But other than those situations described above, there is little,
if any, advantage in micro-kernel architectures.

If you're interested in micro-kernels, I can't recommend any specific books,
but know that the CS department at Carnegie-Mellon did a lot of research
in this area (that migh even be the place where the idea originated).

So, the product was out for nearly 7 months as open source with a complete
and fairly obvious backdoor ... took the community that long to find it?
Seeing as how it remained hidden perfectly for 6 years as closed source this
is nice proof that security through obscurity works just fine thank you. In
fact, had the code NOT been released, this backdoor would continue to have
existed.
I do not applaud the open source find - it was too long coming - instead I
decry Borland/Inprise's quality control - what the fuck! 6 years guys and no
one spotted this ???? Open source should not try to ride the backs of this
for their own self-glorification, that's sad.
