No. Bipolar consumes significant amounts of current even when not switching.
The fastest technology which uses Bipolar transistors is ECL
(Emitter Coupled Logic). By STEERING a constant current between
a PNP or an NPN transistor, stray inductance effects are minimized,
which maximizes speed.
When I was at Purdue, we beta-tested a Powernode 9000 by Gould.
At the time, this was the fastest technology available.
"Switching costs" are almost zero. The downside is that EVERY
gate is "on"...either the 'true' output or the 'negated' output
is on for every gate.
(example, there are not NAND gates vs AND gates...all gates
are AND/NAND, OR/NOR, or XOR/XNOR (or conversely XAND/XNAND).

That has happened 2 times. Once with Netscape 6 and it happend with

reason(they were only 500k though), X froze before all pics were opened)

If that's the case, then why do MS-Office apps use them???

Subject: Is there anything like Net-Meeting on linux?
Date: Sun, 25 Feb 2001 14:48:20 +0800
Hi all,
I now that linux desktop is in active development and day by day things
are getting more sophisticated. There will be many applications in a
year or so.
One thing I would like to ask is if there any application like
Microsoft's Netmeeting available for linux kde/gnome? Are there any
alpha or beta version of that? Or is someone planning to do that (don't
ask me, the world will have to wait ad-infinitum). It would be great to
have the functionality of sharing applications among the desktops. With
the X-server, it must be easy to do.. can it be done to show the display
of an app to different desktops and the application be controlled from
different desktops. If it is so, then KDE/Gnome should have some simple
program to set it up for the users..
With best regards for all,
Kundan Kumar

The point being mentioned is that the British decided (before the ware) to
disarm the populace, and then later, when that proved to be a short sighted
decision, begged for firearms from abroad, Americans responded, and sent
thousands of private arms, the British, ever grateful destroyed them all at the
end of the war rather than return them.

there were 10s of thousands of registered handguns in the UK prior to the ban,
now there are almost none (legally) but the criminals still have them, and the
homicide rate there is going up, not down, as is the violent crime rate in
general.
As for getting a shotgun, you can get one, *if* you live in the country, and
certainly not for the purpose of protection, that is expressly forbidden.

govts, even tyrannical ones, don't want to destroy those who make them wealthy.
Only control them. Read Solzenitzen's "The Gulag archipelago" for what good a
knife or a handgun is against a tyranny.

You assume that a) all the military would side with tyranny, and b) that
guerilla forces cannot win against a conventional force, both assumptions are
wrong.
