Well, ultimately any question "X is Z" can be epistemologically whittled
down to "X is X". Love is "that which we call what is called love".
Justice is "that which we call what it is which is called justice".
While this might seem merely a trick of those "wily philosophers", the
concept of "concept" underlies all language, and thus thought itself,
and so this is a universal truth. What is "Usenet"? What is "irony"?
What is "accurate" or "moderate"?

Simply that which we call those things, and nothing more.

No I lamented that there appeared to be *no people smart enough* to
understand the quote. Which is not very surprising, considering how
imprecise everyone seems to be about such things.

You asked "what does posting unsubstantiated claims...", blah, blah,

Why didn't you just quote it, then?

You complained, though you tried to turn your complaint to ridicule by
making your complaint that "it is ironic" that I use the sig, as if to
thereby "prove" that my statements aren't stated accurately or
moderately (or at least indicate you disagreed with calling them that).
I pointed out it is ironic that you complain, in the form of a question.
Apparently you, at least, are still not bright enough to understand
where the irony is in Mr. Franklin's words and my use of them as a sig.
Perhaps this time you will at least try. Its obvious (or should be)
that you're not going to get anywhere trying amateurish ridicule.

Thanks for your time. Hope it helps.

No, your assumptions were correct. The only place your logic failed you

You shouldn't throw comments into the middle of a sentence for trolling

It took me a few seconds after reading that to realize you were equating
"win an argument" with "convince another". There honestly seems to be
something wrong with that equation, though I can certainly understand
the relationship. Perhaps if your response was more coherent (without

I'm not Mathew.

However, I don't see why regulation of gambling casinos leads to the

It seems a bit ironic that you'd be the one to point that out, in this
context, Aaron. Do you know if the Federalist Papers or any other
sources give some clear indication on why the Declaration of
Independence substitutes 'pursuit of happiness' for 'property', in the
enumeration of Lockean rights?

Let me ask you something, Aaron, on a purely cerebral level, if
possible. What makes it "your" country? I know you can identify it,
and identify with it, because it is the one you are in, the one you were
born in, the one you most agree with idealistically (no telling, of
course, how related those three things might be.) But I don't think
that's the case. I think you somehow think that it is "your" country,
not because you agree with its ideals, but because it agrees with yours.
There is an expectation, I think, of *control* in your beliefs. It is
your country because you are the one who determines that it is a) your
country, and b) coincident with your ideals.

This isn't a subtle flame or jest; I'm trying to explore some
philosophical musings based on my readings, and I need someone's
perspective other than my own. Since the best I can do is get my own
perception of someone else's perception, I'm looking for answers
anywhere I can get them.

So tell me, Aaron, to the best of your knowledge, why is it "your"
country?

That could well be; there is certainly a visceral truth embodied in your
statement. But there's the small matter of having to buy into your
personal beliefs (and that's all they are, regardless of how many
philosophers *you* might feel agree) about what constitutes "enslaving
others".

You're not doing any bargaining, Aaron. Your monkey-brain may not be
able to tell the difference between a Usenet assault on your integrity
and the actual threat of tyranny, but by insisting there is no debate,
you make clear that you're incapable of participating in the debate, and
nothing more.

authority to cite?

No, lack of republicanism (little R, just like the democracy you speak
of is little D) makes referendums unconstitutional. I don't see
anything in what you've posted so far to even *hint* that "democracy is
illegal". Nor could such a case be proven, given that the republican
government mandated by the Constitution requires democratic election of
representatives.

        Special Interest Sierra Club,
        Anarchist Members of the ACLU
Left Wing Corporate Extremist Ted Turner
The Drunken Woman Killer Ted Kennedy

J: Other knee_jerk reactionaries: billh, david casey, redc1c4,
The retarded sisters: Raunchy (rauni) and Anencephielle (Enielle),
also known as old hags who've hit the wall....

I: Loren Petrich's 2-week stubborn refusal to respond to the
challenge to describe even one philosophical difference
between himself and the communists demonstrates that, in fact,
Loren Petrich is a COMMUNIST ***hole

H: "Having found not one single carbon monoxide leak on the entire
premises, it is my belief, and Willard concurs, that the reason
you folks feel listless and disoriented is simply because
    you are lazy, stupid people"

G: Knackos...you're a retard.

F: Unit_4's "Kook hunt" reminds me of "Jimmy Baker's" harangues against
adultery while concurrently committing adultery with Tammy Hahn.

E: Jet is not worthy of the time to compose a response until
   her behavior improves.

D: Jet Silverman now follows me from newgroup to newsgroup
   ...despite (C) above.

C: Jet Silverman claims to have killfiled me.

B: Jet Silverman plays the fool and spews out nonsense as a
method of sidetracking discussions which are headed in a
   direction that she doesn't like.

A: The wise man is mocked by fools.
