you keep telling yourself that.
ALL newsreader software that has an ID string has it embedded
within the source code. It's a simple matter or editing it with
vi and running make to disguise both the newsreader and the OS.
And since on Linux...you have the source code....
Well, I'll leave the rest as an exercise for the reader.
Clue for the clueless: make is your friend.

The TCLPro is available for the Windows platform also for the same cost,
which is free. The commercial software like Corel isn't free as I said
previously. You can have any versions of the Emacs....

Which is understandable. To develop a quality distro will cost money and it
needs to be recovered, otherwise the distro will disappear. The point is
that it won't be long when the Linux pricing will go by licensing the
distros for corporation based upon the number of installation. Take for
example Caldera's Tarantella Express, 5 user license for $835.00. As time
passes by I wouldn't be surprised that even desktop versions will need to be
licensed also. Yes, the Linux kernel and the GNU part of the distros will be
free, but when the company wraps some proprietery code around them, then
they can license it and won't need to make it available for free..

As oppose to a lin-advocate for whom quality doesn't matter as long as the

The GDI is not a video driver. It is part of

What support are you talking about? What lack of quality software? I
agree that end-users are idiots - i work with many of them. They don't
know the difference between an os and a browser or a word processor. They
copy files from one place to another by opening the file in the
associated program and using "save as" to save it in a new directory or
on a floppy. They have never seen or used drag and drop. At this level of
stupidity (or just laziness), you are going to be hard pressed to prove
that one gui is more "intuitive" or "easier" than another.
(Personally, I
like some of kde's features, they are great for people who know what they
are doing and don't like wasting time (send to trash, delete, and shred
for starters) but that doesn't make kde "too hard" for novices.)
Quality software? I introduced the office nt admin to latex (he'd never
heard of it), the GIMP (ditto), StarOffice, and a few other programs. The
whole office was amazed at how good my docs looked after i started using
latex (thankfully, someone ported latex to windows). Side by side
comparisons with similar docs made with Word did not come out in Word's
favor. But then again, many of my coworkers spend half their Word time
picking out new and unusual fonts to use, playing with bold and italic,
and trying to get the margins right or get the picture to center properly.

Again, what are you talking about? User support? From whom? Windows user
support is pathetic, mostly because most users are idiots. "Reinstall" is
not really quality support.
Perhaps you can help me with a small win98j problem i am having at work.
One day for no reason, windows forgot about the existance of about half
my fonts, including, appearently, the fonts that provide the minimize,
maximize and close buttons. The NT admin was useless - he had no ideas
and was unable to fix the problem. I tried font repair from tweak ui,
regclean, and even the office install fix from ms's web site. No luck,
and for some reason it actually lost some more fonts a few days later.
Needless to say, simply reinstalling the fonts did no good.
I repeat, the nt admin in charge of the intranet for an entire city's
education system was unable to even figure out what the problem was, much
less suggest a fix. (Before you get overly excited, you should
know they are slowly replacing the nt servers with linux ones.)
How can an os lose fonts? For no reason? And the admin cannot even find
the problem?
Don't confuse having a lot of users with having a lot of user support.
And don't knock gnu / linux software just because it doesn't look and act
like Office. Some people may find it useful, but i never have.

I have, over the years, used Corel Office (win 3.1 and Win9x versions),
Lotus SmartSuite (OS/2 and Windows), Applix Office 4.41 (only the linux
version), several versions of StarOffice (from version 3.1 upwards, on
OS/2 and linux), Cliq Office (a Linux office suite for character
terminals) and - briefly - Microsoft Office 97. Of all these office
appliances, the Microsoft offering was IMO the one which gave me the
most hassle and problems. It also had a rather steep learning curve (for
doing anything than typing text in a windows, that is) and provided the
least-consistent interface. At this moment I only use regularly one
version of Word (2.0a) and Excel (4.0), because they are installed in
the ROM of my HP Omnibook 425); as simple editors go, Word 2.0a isn't
too bad.
I have never understood on what basis people can praise Microsoft
Office, other than: "It's installed on every computer out there". Well,
so is edlin.

I consider Charles Darwin a genius because he came up with a
revolutionary idea that has stood the test of time.. Of course he didn't
think of it all by himself, but he was the first to put all the elements
we now consider as evolutionary biology together. One may not like his
writing style, or criticise his argumentative skills. the fact remains
that he gave us a totally new way of looking at life and how it evolves.
"Posthumous glorification" is putting it a tad strong, at least in my
case.
And I strongly protest against putting the name of Ayn Rand in a
sentence that contains the term "scientific genius[es]", unless it also
contains the terms "no", "bitch", "that" and "is".

Besides, I _like_ dichotomies; they make it easier to label people.

G: Knackos...you're a retard.

her behavior improves.
D: Jet Silverman now follows me from newgroup to newsgroup
