that's not how Microsoft's terms of use were originally worded.

Originally, it said ANY data passing through the passport system
including comments and suggestions AND ANYTHING ELSE.

speaking of KDE, I went to see what the fuss was all about, wanted to
download KDE 2.1, when I followed the links, all what I found was zillions
of RPM files in a directory, that the user is supposded to download one by one
to install.

are linux people that clueless? can't they least put everyone in one file to
make it easier to download? or may be, I shudder to think of it, have an easy
installer for this?

the problem I see with linux, is that programmers work very hard, but they
fail at the end. Becuase they have no idea how to make things simpler for
end users to install applications.

Linux desktop remains very weak compred to windows, lack of integration with
applications, no consistant interface, hard to use and still needs much
more polishing. I think it is now where windows 3.0 was. so I put windows
desktop at about 5 years ahead of linux desktops. (linux desktop still can't
figure how to make a decent file manager).

untill and unless a major commerical company takes on the task of making
a real linux desktop, I see these attempts as KDE and GNOME as will always
be lacking behind windows desktop.

Yeah, I saw that too. Sad. Alpha with VMS on it is very reliable.
I liked the hardware error logging when something starts to go marginal.
Gives you a chance to fix it.

Not too many happy campers over in comp.os.vms.

A license agreement is nothing but a purchase contract. One may
deprecate Microsoft policy on other issues, but in that case they're
doing it as everybody else. They've worked out a number of standard
contracts, one for private end users, one for small corporate end users,
etc. But nothing forbids you to get in touch with commercial services of
Microsoft and ask to buy a number of licenses for any of their products
with a different contract. If they see it good for their business,
they'll accept it, otherwise they'll reject.
However In this case we're speaking of distribution licenses, which
aren't end user licenses. It's a different kind of license which is
usually handled on a per case basis.

It wouldn't make any difference. You would read the end user license,
i.e. the license binding you. You wouldn't see the contract between
Microsoft and the company, because that's something which normally isn't
of your concern. You could read it only if it was presented as an
evidence in the trial, to prove illegal policies of Microsoft. However
you may be certain that this contract would include the exact phrasing
of the EULA to be provided with the download, which would be exactly the
same as if you had obtained the software directly from Microsoft. Also
this is quite normal, and not Microsoft specific.

In other words, to make it plain. The EULA ensure Microsoft that IE (or
whatever other product they sell), is distributed only by Microsoft, or
by companies which made a specific agreement with Microsoft, and not by
end users. This is normal practice, except for GPL or some other forms
of Open Source, freeware, etc.
