For some strange reason, I initially read that as:

"the law, dear sir, is a breast."

which must indicate some sort of cognitive defect on my part since breasts are
often attractive, evolved for a useful purpose, and require minimal support to
keep them from sagging due to the deleterious effects of gravity and age.

Um... Carry on.

But think how much easier it is to turn out a thousand page book when
seventy percent of it consists of screenshots of the next pop-up.

And the author gets to release a new one when MS changes the appearance
of the mythical single GUI yet again.

If it is so intuitive why do they keep changing it ? Does what is
intuitive mutate like a virus ?

You obviously did not read it or you would have seen...

"The industry doesn't want [MP3] pushed, and Microsoft and
RealNetworks don't want it pushed. The consumer is going to eat
what he's given," says David Farber, the former chief technologist
    at the Federal Communications Commission.

So that missing recording of MP3 is part of the force feeding of more
monopoly crapware to victims who, according to you crap pushers, "have
never been harmed by the monopoly".

You're forgetting a crucial detail there pal. If they are granted this right
in the manner you describe, then there also exists a government entity called
a public utilities commission (or something similar) that acts as an oversite
over the company. The government agency has the power to dictate what the
company may and may not do, what they can charge for their product or service,
it can fine the company for violations or actions that it deems is bad for
the consumer, etc., etc.

Are you suggesting that a similar government oversite be done for Microsoft?
Sounds like you are.
