I installed StarOffice on my Linux box while I was running Microsoft
Office 2000 and Photoshop, no problem. In fact my Linux box was also
running netscape, several term windows, gimp, vmlinux ( running the
afore mentioned W2K with Office 2000 and Photoshop), playing an audio
CD, and a standalone Java program of my own design.
You seem to be unaware that this is one of the beautiful things about
Linux: none of these braindead requirements to "shut down all other
programs before continuing" with an install of some office software.
I didn't even need to reboot...imagine that! You should try it...you'd
really like it.

Setting an environment is such a trivial thing to do that even
the most ignorant users know how to do it.

Some quotes from the article:

Windoze, when you swap cards, has a bad habit of keeping the old
drivers active. I don't know how many times I've seen strange
behavior because an old driver was still active: the new card often
doesn't work properly or its driver refuses to install.

duplex, and nobody is going to tell it any different."
When the hardware breaks, all bets are off, regardless of your OS.

There is potential but...
Being technologically better or more stable or (pick your favourite
attribute here) is irrelevant as to whether you will succeed or not.
It's all about marketing. It's not about technology. Microsoft has the
muscle to make Windows succeed and is doing that rather successfully. Linux
has no such muscle. And guess what, Linux is hardly anywhere on the desktop.
