Actually, it's important.
Many of our nation's brightest people are in the IT industry...and
the best of them are attracted to Linux.
Faaaaaaaaaar too many IT people bury their head in their data sheets
and programming manuals, and ignore the idiocy being perpetrated
by our politicians.
And then, once they do pull their heads out...they have so little
understanding of history and how politicians work, that they
immediately fall for the usual ploys politicians play (like the
party that *claims* to be "we protect the little guy from evil
corporations" while they ACTUALLY spend most of their time
protecting big corporations by passing all kinds of idiotic
regulations which have the PRIMARY purpose of destroying small
businesses.
Yes...BIG BUSINESS ***LIKES*** lots of regulation, because only
they have the resources to comply with the regulations. Small
businesses get shafted every time new regulations are passed.
Big Businesses, on the other hand, have lots of resources to
meet the regulation (and the political clout to get WAIVERS
when they can't)...and they get MORE resources for this as
their smaller competitors go out of business.
The next time some politician claims that he's "protecting you"
by regulating business...remember...the largest corporations
have the most TO GAIN from such laws.

I must say...Any American who subscribes to TIME for news is an idiot.
It's usually 3 weeks behind the times, and poorly presented at that.
Of the 3 major news magazines in the US, ("Time", "Newsweek", and
"US News and World Report"), US NEWS & WORLD REPORT is the only one
of actual value.
Time and Newsweek never do anything other than rehash old news, and
spend WAY too much space on completely pointless shit (like a sections
which do nothing but fawn over entertainment industry--who gives a
fuck?)
On the other hand, US News & World Report PREDICTED the Iraqi invasion
of Kuwait a full 6 weeks before it happened. I distinctly remember
that issue. It was June, 1990. I had recently returned from my
initial training, and subsequent radio operator's school with the army.
The front cover had a painting of Saddam Hussain on the cover, with
the words "The Most Dangerous Man in the World", and listed all of
the accusations Hussain was making against Kuwait.
When Iraq invaded Kuwait a few weeks later, it didn't surprise me.
Time, and Newsweek, on the other hand, were caught completely off
guard, and spent several weeks trying to figure out just what the
hell happened.
This sort of thing is *NOT* extraordinary for US NEWS..in fact,
it has been the NORM for this publication.
Time and Newsweek are the epitomy of American narcism. US News
AND WORLD REPORT is, on the other hand, a forward-looking
publication, which actually does good, solid reporting on
foreign news.
...and...what will eventually BE the news.
> halt during the elections. Hello? people are dying in Africa, East Timor

That's what you get for reading Time.

Our schools are the worst in the industrialized world. Primarily because
they are controlled by "true believer" Communists in the education
establishment, whose goal is to cause the US to collapse from within
(primarily by fucking up the education and legal systems), so that
their friends, operating under orders from Moscow, can, in the subsequent
power vacuum, move in and take over.
This is standard communist methodology.

No...it was a SURVEILLANCE aircraft.
MAJOR difference, which only the anti-military American press would make.

Linux: documented, full source available
Windows: lots of proprietary-formatted documents.
In the end, Windows will lose...as soon as Gates' activation scheme
is put into effect (the primary purpose for this is to collect money
from users in countries, like China and Russia, where there are no
copyright laws....he doesn't realize that they will turn to another
OS before sending him one thin dime).
