MySQL AB plans to merge the functionality of its popular MySQL open-source database, commonly used on Linux platforms, with SAPDB, which it recently acquired from SAP. There's plenty of reason for excitement about the prospects of this merger. The two database apps are among the best open-source databases made. Soon we will see the strengths of one used to shore up the weaknesses of the other. The new product is under development at MySQL now. The beginning of the story came several months back when MySQL AB licensed SAPDB from SAP AB.
