Okay.,
I have installed RedHat Linux v6.0/alpha on my Digital Alpha Station 200
4/166 and attempted to boot the installation from my boot disk (SRM) using :
boot dva0 -fi vmlinux.gz -fl "root=/dev/sda1 single
bootdevice=/dev/sda1" and I get a Kernel Panic, Unable to open Initial
Console, try passing init= option to kernel.... I've checked to see that the
root partion is present on /dev/sda1 and appears to be stable. I used bsd
disklabels on the harddrive..
When I boot with the installation floppies and use the virtual console
ALTF2, I create a sda1 nod and mount it just fine. The /mnt/dev contains
only initctl and log.. Should there be more in there? While going over
/mnt/tmp/install.log I notice numerous "execution of script failed" lines.
One line that might be interesting is :
Installing dev.
execution of script failed
Another is:
Installing initscripts.
execution of script failed
Installing kernel.
execution of script failed
Installing MAKEDEV.
execution of script failed
Installing rootfiles.
execution of script failed
Any thoughts? If I load up the installation programs and try to upgrade, It
claims that the partition I made root in the initial install does not appear
to contain a root filesystem..
