Something interesting for the guru's: Some days ago I tried to run a 2.2.15 Kernel on my "Ruffian" UX Mainboard based system and failed. The kernel hung itself up very early, after calibrating the delay loop with the message "Kernel panic: Freeing swap cache page" I then tried a 2.2.16pre7 Kernel and succeeded. I scanned through the mailinglist-archives and the web and found that no problems were reported with 2.2.15. After that I tried to figure out what went wrong in my case and got a new MILO for "Ruffian" systems from DEC. (Many thanks to www.alphalinux.org for the hint to the new MILO and the excellent web site!) I just tried again to run a 2.2.15 Kernel and taataaa it works! (YEA!) Just out of interest: 1. Why does 2.2.16pre7 work even with the old MILO ? 2. How can a MILO make such a difference, (probably stupid question, but well...) ? so long Ingo
