Date: Thu,  4 Mar 1999 21:08:42 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Unfortunately the archive distributed as leafnode-1.9.2 contains an error
which leads to compile failures on most Linux systems. Therefore I uploaded
leafnode-1.9.2 to
        ftp://wpxx02.toxi.uni-wuerzburg.de/pub/leafnode-1.9.2.tar.gz
and
        ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/incoming/Linux/leafnode-1.9.2.tar.gz
which fixes this bug (and hopefully does not introduce others).

Leafnode is a news server for small sites which is very easy to install
and maintain. Its home page is at
        http://wpxx02.toxi.uni-wuerzburg.de/~krasel/leafnode.html
and there is a leafnode mailing list; to subscribe, send mail with
"Subscribe" in the Subject: header to
        [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Sorry for the inconvenience,

years of real-world experience, adding state-of-the-art
features to a mature and sophisticated Relational Database
Management System (RDBMS) framework. This release stands out
in many ways--both for Sybase and for the database industry
as a whole.

Tripwire - Tripwire, the most widely deployed intrusion
detection tool for UNIX computers, is now available in a

Subject: xloadtime 2.0 - replacement for xload, with time and cpu usage
Date: Thu,  4 Mar 1999 21:13:27 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

XLoadtime is a replacement for the standard X system load tool, XLoad. It
has a few enhancements over the normal xload. Instead of displaying the
hostname at the top of the bar graph, it displays the current time. This
way you don't have to have a separate clock on your desktop. There is also
an option to display CPU usage as a vertical bar next to the load graph.
For SMP systems with a 2.2.0+ kernel, you get one bar per CPU.

Xloadtime time uses the standard Athena widget set, making it a simple and
efficient program to have on your desktop. Use it as a drop in replacement
for the xload you have in your button bar, and get rid of that silly analog
xclock.

See some screen shots at the xloadtime home page:

http://staff.washington.edu/xyzzy/xloadtime/

You can download the source, as well as RPM packages from:

Subject: qvocab-0.20.0 - Qt Vocabulary program for Linux
Date: Thu,  4 Mar 1999 21:19:56 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi,

I've just released qvocab-0.20.0, the first international version of my
vocabulary program (it has only been available in German up to now).

LOCATION
========

There are two locations you can use:

        http://ohfw65.hf.op.dlr.de/qvocab/qvocab.html
        http://david.ghb.fh-furtwangen.de/~joe/qvocab/qvocab.html

REQUIREMENTS
============

QVocab is based on Qt, it has been tested with Qt 1.3x and should also run
on Qt 1.4x.

INTRODUCTION
============

QVocab is a program that should help you to learn the vocabulary of a
foreign language. Therefore you add your words into a simple database file.
Thereafter the program asks you the words and you try to give the
answer, ie. the corresponding word of the other language.
A known word will move up one level (there are five of them) and if you
didn't know its meaning, it is moved to the first level again.

Please have a look on the pages mentioned above for further information.

Regards,

        Joachim

Subject: COMMERCIAL: Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge public beta
Date: Thu,  4 Mar 1999 20:33:48 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Easysoft Ltd would like to announce the first public beta of the
ODBC-ODBC Bridge for Linux. The ODBC-ODBC Bridge is a package of
libraries which provide applications on Linux with access to ODBC data
sources on remote machines. Examples of using the ODBC-ODBC Bridge
are:

[1] Apache/PHP + the ODBC-ODBC Bridge (running on Linux) to read/write
    data held in Microsoft SQLServer on NT.

[2] Perl + DBI + DBD:ODBC + the ODBC-ODBC Bridge (running on Linux) to
    read/write data held in a Microsoft Access database on NT.

The Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge provides the full ODBC 3.5 API
specification and also includes parts of the ODBC 2.0 API now
deprecated in ODBC 3.0/3.5. This allows the application developer to
link directly with the Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge client without the
requirement to install a driver manager on the Linux client.

The public beta of the Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge may be downloaded
from:

http://beta.easysoft.com or

ftp://ftp.easysoft.com/pub/beta/odbc-odbc-bridge/LinuxX86/

Subject: GPL dynamic processes tree update in Motif/Lesstif
Date: Thu,  4 Mar 1999 20:32:35 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

xps dynamically displays in an X Window the Unix processes as a tree
or forest, the roots on the left and the leaf processes (with no
children) on the right. The status of each process running, sleeping,
stopped, etc.) can be indicated by a color. Different users can
appear as different colors too.

Process selection can be made per user, all users or through a
regular expression pattern. (regular expression pattern is new.)

In contrast to pstree and many tree-widget based programs, the tree
display uses diagonal lines; some effort is made to effectively use
the full 2-dimensional area of the screen by balancing levels and
centering the children of a node between their parent. A goal of the
program is to visually give a picture of what's going on. So when
possible processes are kept close to their parents so one needn't
scroll around too much and so that there isn't a lot of redrawing as
processes are created or destroyed.

One can selecting viewing the processes by a single user, a
regular expression for users, by all users and perhaps show
kernel processes. One can click on a process to get more information
(via ps) about that process, send a signal, or set the process
priority, assuming you have the permission to do so.

Since programs of this ilk can consume a bit of CPU on their own,
some effort has been made to turn off the update process when the
program is iconified or or not visible.

"Richtext" 0.1.1 is a freeware package for previewing RTF documentation

 * by default, RTF "Swiss", "Roman" and "Modern" fonts are mapped onto
   Helvetica, Times and Courier; this can be customized via X
   resource files (e.g. to use LucidaTypewriter, Lucida fonts)

 * richtext uses double buffered windows (Pixmaps) for nice screen updates
   (unless given the -u switch for single buffered windows).

 * richtext searches for .rtf files along a RTFPATH list of directories

The Alice Springs Linux User Group (ASLUG) will meet at the Alice
Springs RSL Club on Schwartz Crescent at 18:30 on Wednesday, March
10th, 1999.

Agenda.

1. Linux in the News
2. ASLUG at the Show : update
3. Kernel building demo. See how easy it is to build your very own
Linux kernel. Why bog your PC down with unnecessary features
you just don't need? Find out why Linux is known as the OS without
the bonnet welded shut!

All welcome! If you'd like your PC upgraded to Linux, just bring it
along! If you are just interested in the hottest technology in the
world today, come along. You won't be disappointed!

Cheers.
Adrian Casey.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The 12th Annual Springfield Computerfest is Saturday, March 13, 1999
from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm in the Illinois Building at the Illinois State
Fairgrounds in Springfield.

There will be a ton of stuff of interest to Linux users at the show.
Representatives of the Linux Users of Central Illinois, the
Springfield Perl Mongers, the Southern Illinois Linux Users Group, and
the local Unix users group will be on hand. Some of the stuff going
on in our booths includes the following (in no particular order):

    * Peter Salus, author of _A Quarter Century of Unix_ and _Casting
      the Net_, will be giving his presentation on the last thirty
      years of Unix and the Internet. (This is the same presentation
      he gave at the dinner at the Atlanta Linux Showcase, for those
      of you who missed it there or want to see it again.)
    * The Unix group will be giving away Jolt Cola, and will be
      displaying a Sun Ultra 5 workstation on loan from Sun
      Microsystems (running either Linux or Solaris, depending on what
      mood everybody is in ;).
    * LUCI will be displaying a Corel^H^H^H^H^H^H HCC Netwinder, a
      couple of Alphas, a SPARC or two, and anything else interesting
      we can dig up (all running Linux, of course).
    * The groups will demonstrate a cluster of Linux systems, in this
      case doing distributed POVray over PVM. The cluster will
      consist of Pentiums and K6s of various varieties and speeds,
      plus one Really Fast Alpha. It should be interesting. :-)
    * A Caldera rep will be on hand in the SILUG booth to answer
      questions, and will undoubtedly be giving stuff away.
    * LUCI and SILUG will be handing out Linux CDs, copies of Linux
      Journal, and we're not sure what all else.
    * The Springfield Perl Mongers will be displaying Perl books from
      O'Reilly and Associates and answering Perl questions.

Other things going on at the show include presentations by author Ed
Krol, Netscape representative Kim Wilson, and some guy from M$ (who
must be heckled ;); a job fair made up of local technical recruiters
and employers; and a raffle for an iMac by Club Mac.

Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children under 12. Regular
admission gets you into the entire show floor and lets you see all of
the speakers. All procedes from the show go to local schools and
charities, and to fund next year's show, of course. :-)

Computerfest, Inc. is a non-profit organization made up of
representatives from various users groups in Springfield, Illinois.
