==========================================================================
== XFce 2.4.0, "the Cholesterol Free Desktop Environment" now available ==
==========================================================================

A) What is XFce ?
- -----------------

XFce is now a set of applications including a powerful Window Manager
(xfwm) compatible with MWM(tm), OpenLook(tm), GNOME (partially) and KDE
hints, a toolbar/application launcher (xfce), a backdrop manager (xfbd),
a system sound manager for X11 (xfsound), a user friendly interface for
mouse configuration (xfmouse) and a pager (xfpager) providing a miniature
view of all XFce desktops.

Unlike so many other X applications, XFce is very easy to use and to
configure, thanks to menus, all mouse driven !
Features pull down menus with color icons, 3D widgets, etc.

Visit now :

HTTP://www.xfce.org

Other mirror sites should be updated very soon :

HTTP://www.linux-kheops.com/pub/xfce/
HTTP://tsikora.tiac.net/xfce/
HTTP://xfce.penguincomputing.com/

XFce is available in source and binary format for Linux (libc5 and glibc rpms
and tarballs), FreeBSD and Solaris 2.6 Intel Edition !

B) What XFce looks like ?
- -------------------------

Take a look at the snapshots at HTTP://www.xfce.org/en/snapshots.html

C) What's XFce for ?
- --------------------

XFce is a toolbar and a kind of desktop environment (XFce standing for XForms
Cool Environment)

With XFce, no need to learn any definition language, or type any configuration
file. XFce does it itself ! Just use the mouse to define your preferences.

XFce provides an elegant and easy way to start all your X-Window applications,
using nice color icons, popup menus, etc.

D) Why should I use XFce ?
- --------------------------

If you're new to Linux and you don't want to learn about any complicated
interface, if you're looking for a real nice interface, or you want to have at
home an interface close to the commercial one you use at work on your expensive
UNIX server, then XFce is made for you.

Moreover, XFce is free and it's extremely stable (never gets "core dump" or
unexpected end)

XFce's help system is entirely in HTML format, including frames and screen
captures.

XFce is now available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian,
Portuguese and Slovak !

E) What's new in version 2.4.0 ?
- --------------------------------

Changelog :

version 2.4.0b :
* Improve Compatibility with Linux Kernel 2.2.x

version 2.4.0 :

* New XFPager module
* New XFMouse module
* Improved configurations and startup files
* New default backdrop
* "XFce won't die" bug fixed
* Improved support of KDE in XFwm

F) What archive format are currently available ?
- ------------------------------------------------

XFce is shipped in source format and statically linked binary format.

XFce is available for any Linux system, FreeBSD and SUN Solaris 2.6/Intel
in tar.gz standard format, and RPM (Red Hat Package Management) format for
Red Hat 4.x and 5.x (libc6 compatible)

G) Where do I get this marvelous program ?
- -------------------------------------------

Please visit the official web site for XFce :

HTTP://www.xfce.org

and other mirror sites around the world (may or may not feature the latest
version)

HTTP://tsikora.tiac.net/xfce/

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hello,

we - Gal Duval from the Linux-Mandrake project and Bernhard
Rosenkrnzer from the new BeroLinux project - are very pleased to
announce that we have decided to merge the two projects because we
have similar goals and products.

We want to make the best Linux distribution for the beginner, we want
to be 100% compatible with Red Hat Linux and Un|x configuration
standards, we want it easy-to-use: we want to put Linux on the
desktop!

Bernhard Rosenkrnzer will now be employed at MandrakeSoft - the
company which produces Linux-Mandrake - and be responsible for the
official Linux-Mandrake distribution. The new resulting distribution
will integrate the new ideas and features from BeroLinux as well as
all the new stuff that is actually developped by the Linux-Mandrake
team.

For example, in the next release, our users will have the choice
between both KDE and Gnome for the desktop manager, with new nice
interoperability features. They will also be given the possibility to
get special optimized version for their hardware too (Pentium I/II,
K6...).

We last plan to integrate some nice features like full 2.2.x kernel
support, Euro support, scalable fonts support etc.

Last but not least, we plan to open the Linux-Mandrake development so
that users can contribute and decide what they want for their Linux
distribution. Expect more details by the end of the week.

Date: 19 Mar 1999 22:58:53 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

March 16, 1999

I am pleased to announce the release "CBB" version 0.78, a personal
finance management application written specifically for Unix. It is
implemented in two parts. The data base "engine" is written in Perl
and the graphical front end is written in Tcl/Tk.

CBB is available at ftp://ftp.me.umn.edu/pub/finance/cbb-latest.tar.gz

The primary changes from the last major release are:

    o miss-checks.pl report fixed

    o Switch to watch cursor icon when doing a lengthy operation.

    o Include check number in the key (sorting order)

    o Double clicking on cat. list should paste into current splits
      category.

    o Added a contrib/change.pl script to convert an entire account
      to a new currency.

    o Yet another minor Y2K tweak.

Thanks to everyone who contributed patches this time around.

Additional details are available at the CBB web page:

    http://www.menet.umn.edu/~curt/cbb/

Date: 19 Mar 1999 22:59:22 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hello,

I am pleased to announce the first release of an implementation of the
Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) which is part of the MultiProtocol Label
Switching (MPLS) work in the IETF. It implements packet format encoding and
decoding as specified in the following IETF drafts:
"LDP Specification" <draft-ietf-mpls-ldp-03> and
"Constraint-based LSP Setup using LDP" <draft-ietf-mpls-cr-ldp-01>.

Before compiling, edit the file if your platform is Little Endian (line
157). The main program enables you to test a PDU which is input as a
string of hex characters with the terminating character of "q". It then
decodes the PDU. I've included an example PDU at the end of the file.

Feel free to use it in your code or even in your product, and let us know if
you find any bugs or have enhancements to contribute (we're trying to follow
an open development model for this). This program is released under the
terms found at the website, which are essentially BSD-like. Let us know if
you have any comments or questions about the licence.

The code is available in a single source file at
http://www.nortelnetworks.com/mpls

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi there.

This is to announce the general availability of the above CD's, as
follows

        Linux Kernel Archives Volumes 1 & 2

This is a two CD set containing all known Linux kernel release
tarballs from v0.01 through v2.1.83 that can still be found (or at
least, those that I have managed to find so far).

Note that a full list of kernel tarballs known to have been released
can be viewed at the following URL, which also contains payment
details:

        http://www.memalpha.cx/kernel.versions.html

Be warned in advance that the above document is around 150k in size,
and it does NOT contain any graphics images - its length is simply due
to the number of kernel tarballs and patch files that have been
released in the last eight years...

Please also note that volume 3 is NOT currently available, simply
because I don't currently have enough hard disk space to put it
together ready for burning, but I expect to remedy that situation in
mid-April...

Best wishes from Riley.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
There is something frustrating about the quality and speed of Linux
development, ie., the quality is too high and the speed is too high,
in other words, I can implement this XXXX feature, but I bet someone
else has already done so and is just about to release their patch.
