Eklektix, Inc., publisher of the Linux Weekly News (http://lwn.net), is
pleased to announce the first open-registration offering of its Linux
systems administration class, to be held April 26-30, 1999, in Boulder,
Colorado, USA. You are invited to join us for a week of intensive,
hands-on learning during springtime in the Rocky Mountains.

Our Linux administration class is strongly oriented toward real life
situations, and the integration of Linux into larger, heterogeneous
networks. The course - limited to twelve participants - is taught by
practicing engineers with years of administration experience. Our students
will finish the week well prepared to make Linux work in their
environments.

Please see our training pages at http://www.eklektix.com/training/ for more
information.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

March 16, 1999

I am pleased to announce the release "CBB" version 0.78, a personal
finance management application written specifically for Unix. It is
implemented in two parts. The data base "engine" is written in Perl
and the graphical front end is written in Tcl/Tk.

CBB is available at ftp://ftp.me.umn.edu/pub/finance/cbb-latest.tar.gz

The primary changes from the last major release are:

    o miss-checks.pl report fixed

o Switch to watch cursor icon when doing a lengthy operation.

o Include check number in the key (sorting order)

o Double clicking on cat. list should paste into current splits
      category.

o Added a contrib/change.pl script to convert an entire account
      to a new currency.

o Yet another minor Y2K tweak.

Thanks to everyone who contributed patches this time around.

Additional details are available at the CBB web page:

    http://www.menet.umn.edu/~curt/cbb/

Curt.

Subject: 128-bit crypto: Fortify for Netscape: New releases.
Date: 19 Mar 1999 12:52:10 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Sydney, Australia. (16 Mar, 1999). Two new versions of Fortify for Netscape
have been released and are now generally available.

Version 2.2.0 on Windows 95/98/NT delivers support for the latest Netscape
v4.51 browsers. Version 1.4.0-Unix also supports the v4.51 browsers, on
Linux, Solaris (Sparc and Intel systems), Irix, and DEC Unix.

[Note that, at the time of writing, Netscape have not yet released the v4.51
browser on the Unix 'unsupported' cluster of platforms. When these platform
editions become available, Fortify will be updated accordingly.]

These releases of Fortify for Netscape also include changes to facilitate
its translation (localization) into non-English languages. Opportunities
now exist for commercial resellers, non-commercial groups, or individuals
to create or assist with non-English translations of Fortify. Expressions
of interest are hereby solicited! For further details please refer to
http://www.fortify.net/localization.html.

Fortify for Netscape is available immediately from the Fortify web site,
at http://www.fortify.net/, or from the Fortify mirror FTP sites (after
propagation is complete).

- ------------------------------------------------------------
About Fortify for Netscape:

Fortify for Netscape is a system that provides world-wide, unconditional,
full strength, 128-bit encryption to users of Netscape's Web browsers.
If you routinely use Netscape's export grade Web browsers (i.e. the ones
that are available on the net), then you need Fortify.

Fortify is free for all forms of non-commercial use. It currently supports
most, if not all, of the non-beta versions of Netscape Navigator (v3 and v4)
and Communicator (v4), that have been released on the following platforms:-

DEC-OSF + Dec UNIX (Alpha systems)
SGI Irix 5.x and 6.x (Mips systems)
Sun Solaris 2.4 and 2.5.1 (Sparc systems)
Sun Solaris 2.4 and 2.5.1 (Intel x86 systems)
    Sun SunOS 4.1.3_U1 (Sparc systems)
BSD, FreeBSD, BSDI (Intel x86 systems)
    Linux-Elf and Linux-glibc2 (Intel x86 systems)
    MKLinux and LinuxPPC (PowerPC systems)
Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT (Intel x86 systems)
    IBM OS/2 (Intel x86 systems)

Full details about availability, copyright, download sites, latest news,
and an FAQ guide can all be found at the Fortify web site:-

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi there.

This is to announce the general availability of the above CD's, as
follows

        Linux Kernel Archives Volumes 1 & 2

This is a two CD set containing all known Linux kernel release
tarballs from v0.01 through v2.1.83 that can still be found (or at
least, those that I have managed to find so far).

Note that a full list of kernel tarballs known to have been released
can be viewed at the following URL, which also contains payment
details:

        http://www.memalpha.cx/kernel.versions.html

Be warned in advance that the above document is around 150k in size,
and it does NOT contain any graphics images - its length is simply due
to the number of kernel tarballs and patch files that have been
released in the last eight years...

Please also note that volume 3 is NOT currently available, simply
because I don't currently have enough hard disk space to put it
together ready for burning, but I expect to remedy that situation in
mid-April...

Best wishes from Riley.

There is something frustrating about the quality and speed of Linux
development, ie., the quality is too high and the speed is too high,
in other words, I can implement this XXXX feature, but I bet someone

Subject: /dev/changer - a driver to mount all the cd's in a changer
Date: 19 Mar 1999 12:52:14 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi,

Well this is the very first, almost working beta alpha gamma of /dev/changer.
It shouldn't even compile for you... cause you're missing some stuff in the
kernel includes which I have manually edited but haven't included patches
for yet.

See the source code for all the rest of the documentation available.

What:
/dev/changer will allow you to mount all the cd's in your changer(s) at once.
thus avoiding the hassle with scripts etc. And effectivly allowing a cheap way
to expensive jukeboxes along with their software...

A few things you should know:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] # for i in `seq 255`; do mknod /dev/changer$i b 42 $i; mkdir -p
/cdrom/$i done
and then:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] # mount /dev/changer1 /cdrom/1 -t iso9660

For any comments etc, send it to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or check the website at
http://unfix.org/projects/changer

Current status:
Works partly, except it can only use one cd as the buffers aren't
invalidated in between... I'll hope to fix this tonight (CET).

Greets,
Jeroen Massar

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Patchlevel 15 of xautolock has now been spotted at:

ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/X11/screensavers/xautolock-pl15.tgz

In a not too distant future it should also show up in:

ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/applications/xautolock-pl15.tgz

Other sites will surely follow once the mirroring catches up.

User visible changes from patchlevel 14 are:

1. addition of the `-locknow', `-unlocknow' and `-nowlocker' options;

2. the VMS port should now work to a much larger degree.

- -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Xautolock monitors console activity under the X window system, and
fires up a program of your choice if nothing happens during a
user configurable period of time. You can use this to automatically
start up a screen locker in case you tend to forget to do so manually
before having a coffee break.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The program tsinvest is for the programmed trading of equities. It is
useful for day trading. The new version has one additional command
line switch, -d5, for "noise trading" in highly speculative markets.

The program has a web site at http://www2.inow.com/~conover/ntropix/

    Title: tsinvest-0.5.tar.gz

The optimal gains of multiple equity
investments are computed. The program decides
which of all available equities to invest in
at any single time, by calculating the

techniques are used throughout. A tutorial is
presented in the man(1) pages. A companion

Subject: pppcosts0.06 - an online costs calculator
Date: 19 Mar 1999 12:52:28 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

pppcosts is a small utility that calculates and displays the time (and phone
costs) you have been online using a modem or ISDN ppp connection. The time
and costs are saved, so that you can use pppcosts to keep track of your
monthly phone costs. Cost files for many phone companies are included. If
your phone company isn't on the list, then you can create a costfile on your
own, which is very easy.

homepage:http://www.isjm.com/tst/pppcosts.htm
download:ftp://your.nearest.sunsite.mirror/pub/Linux/system/network/serial/pppcosts-0.06.ELF.tar.gz

Version 0.06:
Many changes and bugfixes among which:
   New layout of distribution.
Loadable costs files for different telcos.
   Runs on FreeBSD.
   New costfiles.

Enjoy!
