X11 tuXeyes is a small Qt application that draws a "shaped" tux (our
beloved linux mascotte) on your desktop. Tux will follow your mouse cursor
movements with its eyes just like Xeyes does. It doesn't provide much
functionality but it looks nice on your desktop! :)

X11 tuXeyes is release with source under the GNU Public License. More
info and sources can be found at

Enjoy,

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Xi Graphics is pleased to announce their first delivery of support for
any 3Dfx chips and support for the ARM M175 portable computer using the
Chips and Tech 65555. Updates are available from the Anon-FTP site,
ftp.xig.com and more details may be found at the web site, www.xig.com.

Diamond Monster Fusion/3Dfx Voodoo Banshee

An update
(ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx/desktop/5.0/intel/D5000.003.tar.gz)
for Accelerated-X Version 5 is now available that explicitly supports
the Diamond Monster Fusion and is expected to work on all other 3Dfx
Voodoo Banshee based boards. The board is now the fastest supported by
Accelerated-X, beating the leading position maintained by Matrox since
their 1995 introduction of the Millennium series. The previous leader,
in 1994, was Number 9's Imagine 128. Installation instructions for the
update are at URL
ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx/desktop/5.0/intel/D5000.003.txt .

Server Board Xmark'93 rating
                        8bpp 16bpp 24bpp

Xaccel 5 DMF 44 38 32
XF86_SVGA DMF 18 15 8
Xaccel 4.1.2 MG200 42 31 29

DMF = Diamond Monster Fusion AGP
MG200 = Matrox G200 AGP

The slightly older version of Accelerated-X used for testing the Matrox
G200 does not affect the benchmark significantly as the core algorithms
and the Matrox specific code are functionally similar in Accelerated-X
4.1.2 and 5. The major differences between the releases are the
introduction of Plug & Play configuration and support for TrueType font
handling by the X server.

The version of XFree86 used for benchmarking the Voodoo Banshee was
found on linux3d.org . The version is claimed to be 3.3.3.1 but the X
server ID suggests that it is 3.3.3.0. It was downloaded from
Linux3d.org on Tuesday 23 March 1999. As of 23rd March, there was no
indication of Voodoo support at Xfree86.org .

All three tests have been conducted on the same system. The processor
is a Pentium II/350Mhz with a 100MHz bus and AGP 2, with 32MB RAM.
Faster processors and higher system memory speeds should improve the
speed even further. The Xaccel 5 and XF86_SVGA tests were conducted
using RedHat 5.2 and the Xaccel 4.1.2 test was conducted on RedHat 5.1.
Note that RedHat 5.2 seems to have slowed this system by about 5%; we
are investigating the causes and may republish a benchmark and the
reason when we find out why!

X server support for the 3Dfx Voodoo banshee does not imply that 3D
hardware accelerated support will be available. Customers intending to
use Accelerated-X with 3D hardware support are recommended to consult
the list of chips supported by the Accelerated-X OpenGL Tech Demo.

ARM M175/Chips & Tech 65555

An update for Accelerated-X Laptop Dispay Server Version 5 has been
published recently, offering support for the ARM M175 portable
computer. The update is at URL
ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx/laptop/5.0/L5000.002.tar.gz with a
text description in
ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx/laptop/L5000.002.txt . The ARM
M175 was speed tested as follows:

Server Xmark'93 rating

                        8bpp 16bpp 24bpp
Xaccel 5.0 11 8 7

There is no support claimed by XFree86 for the Chips & Tech 65555.

Interpreting Xmarks

Xmarks, like most single figure benchmarks, are hard to translate.
Roughly speaking, opaque window moves are painfully jerky at less than
10 Xmarks and unpleasantly jerky at less than 20 Xmarks. Starting at
around 30 Xmarks, opaque window moves look smooth, unless interrupted by
heavy disk and processor activity, causing the X server to not get
processor cycles. The Voodoo Banshee and the Matrox G200 should both
offer smooth opaque moves even in 24bpp color depth. The ARM M175 will
not look as smooth, even in 8bpp.

Cheers, JeremyC.

LREAD V3.3

LREAD is a tool suite for DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 9x, Windows NT and
various UNIX systems for accessing files on Linux harddisks (Linux's
extended 2 filesystem).

The tools allow to list directories, to copy files from Linux to the
non-Linux filesystem and vice versa. You also can delete files or modify
access rights of Linux files. The tool is intended to allow repairing
your linux filesystem in case anything went wrong.

LREAD now has also a graphical user interface (GUI), which allows you to
list and copy files with any web browser. The graphical user interface
can be configured to allow remote access from other machines.

The most recent version of the LREAD tools suite can be found on
  http://www.it.fht-esslingen.de/~zimmerma/lread.htm

You can also get older versions from
  http://sunsite.unc.edu 's ftp.ar in directory

Subject: Data exchanger between Oracle and CSV files
Date: Wed, 7 Apr 1999 23:36:24 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I have updated chcsv 2.0, available from my web site.

The main feature of chcsv 2.0 is better performance by
"Array fetch" than before.

[What are chcsv/csvload?]
chcsv and csvload are simple and convenient Oracle tools
to exchange data between Oracle table and text-files (CSV format).

o chcsv is to read SQL sentence from standard input
( or a file indicated by -i option ) and write results into
standard output ( or a file indicated by -o option ).
It is flexible to change the terminator and enclosure of columns.

o csvload is to read a CSV file and load it into Oracle table.
If the table already has the record ( that means this table has
UNIQUE constraint ), csvload loads this record as "UPDATE",
otherwise as "INSERT". You don't need to create a parameter file
because csvload load just as the default sequence of
      columns of the table.

The sources are released under the terms of the GNU GPL.

What's new ?

* v0.3
    - removed notify_new.pl and rewritten in C with
      additional features.
    - added manpage for notify_new
    - updated configure, README, INSTALL, Makefiles
    - fixed section for psearchd manpage
    - perl now obsolete
    - splitted source-path

What is psearch ?

Psearch is a search-prog for files located in ftp/pub
at localhost and with psearchd also at remote hosts.

This software was especially written for usage from
within the hamradio net. Because this net is quite
unstable an archie known from the inet could not be
used sensibly.

For a big ftp-server psearch is not useful. Therefore
you should use a different soft with a real database.

You can download the current version from

ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/network/info-systems/psearch-0.3.tar.gz

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

We are very pleased to announce the public release of libgcj, the
run-time component of GCJ, the GNU Compiler for Java. This allows you
to build executable programs from Java source, without needing any JDK
components.

Libgcj includes the core run-time environment, such as object
management, garbage collection, thread support. It also includes the
core Java classes from java.lang, java.util, and parts of java.io,
java.net, and java.text. Many things (such as object serialization,
java.awt, java.util.zip, and most of java.lang.reflect) are not yet
implemented.

Libgcj is licensed under the terms of the LGPL; see the file
COPYING.LIB for details.

gdb 4.18, to be released very soon, is Java-aware and can debug
Gcj-compiled programs. This release means that there is a complete
suite of free software tools for compiled Java.

For instructions on downloading and installation, and for more
information on gcj and libgcj in general, see the Gcj and Libgcj
homepage at http://sourceware.cygnus.com/java/.
