=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I have released Snort 0.99 Release Candidate 6 at
http://www.clark.net/~roesch/security.html. Snort is a libpcap based
packet logger which reads and parses packets from the link layer through
the application layer, dumping the decoded packet data. It can log these
packets in their decoded form to directories which are generated based
upon the IP address of the remote peer. This can
be used as a sort of "poor man's intrusion detection system" if you
specify what traffic you want to record and what to let pass. The
traffic to be recorded can be filtered using TCPDump-style BPF commands
at the command line or via a flexible set of rules contained within a
file. There is also a primitive alert generation capability.
Snort is available under the GPL. It is very cross platform friendly,
Linux (x86), Solaris (sparc/x86), FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD(M68K)
versions have all been compiled with no code mods necessary.

Subject: HTMLView 0.5 - create web user interfaces to SQL databases
Date: Fri, 23 Apr 1999 20:21:17 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
HTMLView is a set of modules to handle relational SQL databases
through a DBI interface and create web user interfaces to them. Among
it's features are the possibility to handle relations in the same
manner as fields and it is easily extended with additional field or
relation specifications as well as custom editors and viewers.
News in this version is:
* View.cgi now optionally asks for username and passwords which are passed
on to the database server. With the mySQL access system this allows you
to apply access restrictions on Database, Table or Field basis.
* Added a rows method to PostSet reporting the number of rows matched.
* Made quite some additional parameters customizable by the $data hash in
the Fld constructor including display and store values for Bool, the sql
sizes and types of all flds, the sizes of <input ...> boxes.
* Splited the DB object into msqlDB and mysqlDB (the HTMLView::DB method
points to msqlDB for backwards compatibility).
* Applied some chnages by Richard Braakman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> that:
- Fixed up the docs with quite some spell corrections
- Made sure that the field data is propperly escaped both in the html
forms and the sql requests.
- Added a Bool Fld
- Added a mysqlDB class for using mySQL database engines.
You'll find the distribution at CPAN in:
authors/id/H/HA/HAKANARDO/DBIx-HTMLView-0.5.tar.gz
Or if the mirrors are not updated yet you can pick it up by ftp from
hobbe.ub2.lu.se in /pub/CPAN/DBIx-HTMLView-0.5.tar.gz.

ways.

Next week's meeting will include a brief introduction to standard HTML
web pages and ordinary CGI programming for those people who are not
familiar with web design. The main presentation will be on "Professional
Home Pages", known as PHP or PHP3 (version 3).
PHP is a server-side, cross-platform, HTML embedded scripting language

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I would like to announce a new release of mtools, a collection of
utilities to access MS-DOS disks from Unix without mounting them.
Mtools supports Win'95 style long file names, FAT32, OS/2 Xdf disks
and 2m disks (store up to 1992k on a high density 3 1/2 disk). Mtools
also includes mpartition, a simple partitioning programing to setup
Zip and Jaz media on non-PC machines (SunOs, Solaris and HP/UX).
Mtools can currently be found at the following places:
http://www.tux.org/pub/knaff/mtools
http://mtools.linux.lu/mtools
and soon at:
ftp://tsx-11.mit.edu/pub/linux/sources/usr.bin/mtools-3.9.5.tar.gz
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Incoming/mtools-3.9.5.tar.gz
(will be moved to
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/utils/disk-management/mtools-3.9.5.tar.gz)
The md5sums are:
124289b95012cd19673b047dc7c40fd5 mtools-3.9.5.tar.gz
67c2e70c0de32a32372ef883fd55f13b mtools-3.9.5-1.i386.rpm
Mtools-3.9.5 is mostly a maintainance release, meant to fix a few
minor bugs:
* Starting cluster number of the dot directory entry was wrong, which
caused problems on OpenBSD platforms
* Copying zero-length files from Dos to Unix yielded "phantom" files
* Compatibility issues with a couple of platforms
* Punctuation "fixes" to keep the new texi2info happy
There is an mtools mailing list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] To
subscribe to it, send a message containing 'subscribe mtools' in its
body to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mailing list archives are at
http://www.tux.org/hypermail/mtools

Subject: newsx 1.4 - news server exchange; post and fetch news articles

Version 1.4 of newsx is now available from (US):
ftp://ftp.kvaleberg.com/pub/newsx-1.4.tar.gz
and (Europe):
ftp://ftp.sol.no/user/egilk/newsx-1.4.tar.gz
It will soon be uploaded to metalab.unc.edu too, where it should appear
under /pub/Linux/system/news/transport.
The newsx home page is at http://www.kvaleberg.com/newsx.html
Since version 1.3, these are the main news:
Support for a standard profile in $PATHETC/newsx.conf, and a
per server profile in $INHOSTS/spoolname.conf
If desired, full runtime configuration. This means that for
instance package maintainers can make a newsx executable that is
independent of what news system it is actually running.
INN 2.x storage-API now fully supported, so that newsx is
compatible with cycbuffs and the like.
Handling of more header items that create problems with posting.
Even easier maintenance and configuration due to support for
generic "newsx" path exclude tag.
Log-files made compatible with INN scanlogs and innreport, and
improved compatibility with innstat.
Documentation updates.
Will suppress DNEWS-generated faked articles.
Compared to version 1.0, the main developments has been:
Compatibility with INN 2.x
Made handling of ME-field in INN mode compatible.
Filtering with cleanfeed and similar now supported.
Option --groups for specification of asymmetric newsfeeds.
As an extra precaution against undesired behavior, all incoming
articles are checked to see if their path is consistent with the
configuration, and outgoing articles checked to see if the length
of their paths are of correct length.
Various new options supporting use of newsx in gateways.
