Date: Tue, 25 May 1999 22:02:56 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The Kingston (Ontario, CANADA) Linux Users Group (KLUG) is going to be
running Kingston's first Linux Installfest on Saturday, June 5th, 1999.
The event in being hosted by Comtech Services of 720 Progress Avenue at
thier location. Doors will open at 10:00AM.

Members of the KLUG will be on hand to install the Linux Operating
System on your Personal Computers free-of-charge. If you would like to
have Linux installed but you don't want to try the installation
yourself, this is your chance to have it installed by experienced Linux
users.

We will be installing the Linux-Mandrake 5.3 distribution which combines
the ease of use, installation and management of RedHat Linux 5.2 with
the powerful and intuitive K Desktop Environment.

You will be required to register in advance by contacting myself by
email or by phone at (613) 384-4068 (after 6:00PM) or if you are in the
Brockville area, contact Doug Mitton at (613) 354-3716 (again evenings
only) or by email at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

During the registration we will be asking you for information about your
PC Hardware so we know what to expect. It is strongly suggested that you
bring in your _complete_ system. Though ComTech will have extra parts
(monitors, keyboards, etc) available, it is much easier for us to give
you a fully functional system if you bring in your entire system (CPU,
monitor, keyboard, mouse, external peripherals). The more of your system
that you bring in, the more likely everything will work correctly when
you get home.

Each complete installation can take some time (~3hrs including
pre-processing, installation of the OS, configuration, installation of
extra applications, verification, etc) so please be prepared to stick
around. There will be members available to demonstrate various Linux
concepts and to tutor you on the basics while you wait.

You will also be required to sign a waiver before we begin installation.
All the KLUG members who will be performing the installations are very
experienced Linux users and we do not expect to run into any problems
but they are all volunteers and as such they cannot be held accountable
if something does go wrong.

For more information about the KLUG, please visit our website's
temporary location at http://signals.rmc.ca/klug/. The site will be
moved to www.klug.on.ca in the near future.

Subject: Common UNIX Printing System 1.0 BETA 2
Date: Tue, 25 May 1999 21:38:08 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Keywords: printing UNIX IPP

The second public beta release of the Common UNIX Printing System
("CUPS") is now available for download from the CUPS web site
at:

    http://www.cups.org

Binaries for several platforms are also now available!

The Common UNIX Printing System provides a portable printing
layer for UNIX operating systems. It has been developed by Easy
Software Products to promote a standard printing solution for
all UNIX vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and
Berkeley command-line interfaces.

CUPS uses the Internet Printing Protocol (IETF-IPP) as the basis
for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD, RFC1179), Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality.

CUPS adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer
Description ("PPD")-based printing options to support real world
applications under UNIX.

CUPS also includes a customized version of GNU GhostScript
(currently based off GNU GhostScript 4.03) and an image file RIP
that can be used to support non-PostScript printers.

Changes since the last release include:

        - All remote admin stuff is now implemented.
        - JPEG/ZLIB dependencies in pstoraster are now #ifdef'd.
        - The lpadmin command is implemented.
        - The authorization code now works when shadow passwords
          are available but not enabled.
        - Added the HP sample drivers & PPD files.
        - Added the pstoraster font files.
        - Lots of new documentation.

Subject: Taper 6.9a - User friendly tape, hard disk, floppy etc.. backup program
Date: Tue, 25 May 1999 21:34:59 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi

This is to announce the release of taper 6.9a. Apart from some minor
bug fixes, it fixes the seg faulting under Red Hat 5.2 as well
as some kernel 2.2.x configurations.

I am now working on a 64 bit version to be released in a few months.

For those that don't now....

Begin3
Title: Taper
Version: 6.9a
Entered-date: 20MAY99
Description: This is a tape backup and restore program that provides
a friendly user interface to allow backing/restoring
files to a tape drive. Alternatively, files can be backed
up to hard disk files. Selecting files for backup and restore
is very similar to the Mouseless Commander interface and
allows easy traversal of directories. Recursively selected
directories are supported. Incremental backup and automatic
most recent restore are defaults settings. SCSI, ftape,
zftape, and removable drives are supported (ide tape drives
                in ALPHA stage)
Information about archives is stored on the hard disk
allowing information about archives to be obtained without
having to have the tape in the drive.

tuXeyes is a small Qt application drawing one of several figures (tux,
dustpuppy, chuck the bsd daemon or luxus) on your screen. The figure
tracks your mousecursor with it's large eyes, like Xeyes does.

version 0.0.3 add (besides the new figures added in 0.0.2) some bugfixes,
a 'q' shortcut for quickly terminating the program, and a new BSD-style
license which will hopefully resolve some licensing issues.

tuXeyes can be found at http://zero.xs4all.nl/~ivo/tuXeyes/ or downloaded
directly from http://zero.xs4all.nl/~ivo/tuXeyes/doanload/

Enjoy,
