=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
A new beta release of unixODBC is now available from
http://www.unixodbc.org.
The unixODBC project aims to provide Unix applications with the same
ODBC 3.X API and facilities avalable under Windows.
The distribution provides the following :-
A Driver Manager that supports the ODBC 3.5 API, and performs
the ODBC 3 to ODBC 2 translations, as specified in the MS
documentation.
A Set of graphical utilities that allow user's to specify
connections to DBMS to be used by applications.
A collection of ODBC drivers including a simple text based
driver, a NNTP driver, a Postgres driver and others.
A selection of templates and libraries that to aid in the
construction of ODBC drivers.
This release (beta-1.0.6) contains the following changes over the
previous release :-
A standardised build/config now follows the GNU recomendations.
The code is now safe to use in a threaded environment. By default
the Driver Manager will protect drivers on a environment level but
this can be changed on a per driver basis, to allow serialisation
on a connection or statement level, or to only provide protection
for DM internal storage when used with a fully thread safe driver.
A number of bugs in the Driver Manager that were fixed in the CVS
tree are now included in the release.
Some changes have been made to improve the portability of the code.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
A new snapshot of mGSTEP is now available. Screenshots, release notes
and of course the package are available at:
http://farz.home.mindspring.com/far.html
The URL to the package is:
ftp://farz.home.mindspring.com/users/farz/mgstep-0.168.tar.bz2
DESCRIPTION
The mGSTEP package is an attempt at creating a small lite
derivative of GNUstep. mGSTEP and GNUstep are clones of
NeXT's highly acclaimed NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP(tm) graphical
user interface and Objective-C class libraries.
RELEASE NOTES
The changes in this snapshot consist mostly of low level AppKit
optimizations and bug fixes. The performance boost is noticeable
in many cases and is at least several orders of magnitude in the
case of the string drawing primitives. The result of the latter
is that scrolling all but very large text files is now smooth
even on slow hardware when a selection is present (cursor is not
drawn). Once again the XRAW backend shrunk slightly and now
consists of just nine classes (six posing).
On the new feature front Edit now provides basic search and replace.
Also new is a non NeXT feature which facilitates the use of Edit
for programming by dynamically displaying the selected line range
while the user drags a selection (in plain text mode). For the
most part Edit should now be useful for simple editing/programming
tasks. But be advised that this is akin to pulling on the dragon's
tale; you do so at your own risk.
A number of bug fixes and patches were received and applied. A
special thanks to Helmut Maierhofer who found and turned in a
number of difficult to find bugs/patches. The mGSTEP package
makefiles received some polish and install capabilities thanks
to Peter Rasmussen. Support for FreeBSD was provided via a
patch from Tim Bissel. This snapshot should also be much more
portable as I added support for George Tuparev's fake main()
trick which if employed disables my Assembly based technique for
initializing NSProcessInfo.
I've begun work on two new backends. One is a native Win32 backend
for Windows NT. There's a new screenshot on my web page showing
the buttons example running on NT. There's also a new native NeXT
backend. Neither of these is really ready for a wide audience and
so they are not yet included in the package.
SUPPORTED PLATFORMS
mGSTEP can be built on i386 machines running NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP
(built with NS3.2 dev tools), Linux (best platform) or WinNT.
Building the AppKit requires an X server and X headers/libraries.
Comments, bug reports and suggestions should be sent to:

Subject: qps 1.8 - visual process manager
Date: Mon, 9 Aug 1999 19:36:36 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Version 1.8 of qps is now available. This is mostly a bugfix release.
Qps is a visual process manager, an X11 version of "top" that displays
processes in a window and lets you sort and manipulate them.
It works on Linux and Solaris.
For more info, see the web page:
http://www.nada.kth.se/~f91-men/qps/
Major differences from version 1.7 are:
o Qps now builds with Qt 2.00 as well as with Qt 1.4x.
o Unix98-style ptys are supported on Linux (used in RedHat 6.0 etc)
o The Files table shows open mode (R, W, RW)
o Icon is updated even when main window is visible (for WindowMaker users)
o Field widths depend on the font size (about time...)
o Faster X11 selection (especially over slow networks)
o Several Solaris fixes and added functionality
o The usual bug fixes
KDE users may use qps directly, or Mario Weilguni's "kpm" which is a qps
port to KDE. It is based on a slightly older version of qps, however.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
HI!
I want to announce a new version of ldap-client-cgi.py, a
WWW-LDAP-Gateway written in Python (you might have guessed it).
It's available for free (GPL) from
http://sites.inka.de/ms/python/ldap-client-cgi/
I would like to encourage people to give feedback about the usability
of this program. And I would like to know about public LDAP servers with
good directory trees which allow public testing of LDAP clients.
(memberdir.netscape.com, ldap.infospace.com and directory.verisign.com
all suck!)
Ciao, Michael.
A lot of work was done since 0.3.1:
- - bind without input of full bind-dn
(anon search seeks for complete DN first)
- - working tree traversal
- - almost every parameter configurable for each LDAP host separately
- - vCard's for easy download of addresses in address books
of NS Comm. and MS IE.
- - LDIF output of search results for bulk downloading of addresses
(no binary attributes up to now)
- - improvements to the user interface
- - clean login behaviour
- - minor HTML improvements
