Creating a single user/group list between Linux servers/clients is EASY and it is spelled NIS (Network Information Service), uses very efficient RPC calls, has faillover is "master" authentication server goes down, etc... See the NIS-HOWTO, or O'Rielly's "Managing NIS and NFS". I use a RedHat 5.0 box as my master server, with backup servers running on a RedHat 4.2 desktop, a IBM RS/6000 running AIX 4.2, and another RedHat 4.2 (a 4867sx) across town via a WAN link. 2. See Samba (http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/) The current expirimental version (obtainable via CVS) can even acts as a PDC (albiet with some caveats, but those are RAPIDLY bieng worked on) 3. As far as I know, To do it with Samba you need to set something in the smb.conf, you could always ask their mail list, or better yet search thier archives. I know I've seen this talked about.
