A little bit delayed... At the time of asking I had the same problem, and
as far as I know, noone has replied to this question. Hope it will be
useful anyway.
Basically there are two ways to read mail from a pop3 server. (I don't know
exactly from which version numbers this hold. I run PINE 3.98)
1) Reading directly from the pop3 server. To do this you need to change
Pine's configuration. (Press S in the Main menu) You have to change the
INBOX path to {your-pop3mail-server/pop3}INBOX. Then save en exit pine en
restart it. You'll be asked for a username and password.
2) Alternatively you can use fetchmail, which redirects the mail at your
server to your local machine. See the man page for options.
