Yes. First, you'll need to compile a kernel with APM BIOS support.
Then simply run one of the many APM aware clients (you may need to
run the apmd daemon as well, I can't remember).
There's a couple in the apmd distribution itself ("apm", a simple
command line version, and "xapm" for those using X). You could also
look at the third party options. There's one designed for AfterStep
(I think called "asapm"), and a KDE one, "kdpms".
