fvwm (and I suspect VWM95) let you choose screen savers from
the default menus in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fvwm/system.fvwmrc. Alternatively
and more informatively, you can see xsetroot(1) for an explanation
of your root screen, and how to change its source (e.g. blank, picture,
animation, ...) and level (e.g. behind, in front, ...). xlock(1) is the
most common source used. "The timed blank" is presumably a default
selection of xlock with blank and nolock settings.
