I may be wrong, but I think that a DVD defaults to working as a CDR.  I'm
not loading any special drivers, and Linux reads CD's from the DVD in my
Compaq Presario just fine, including booting.  It could be due to
something specific to the machine BIOS, but I kind of doubt it.
