I can't remember what the problems were with 2.4.0-test6, but it is highly
likely that this is caused by VM bugs. The VM had a lot of effort put into
it throughout the 2.4.0-test series, and certainly some did exhibit this
behaviour.
The best advice whenever a problem is discovered in an old kernel is always
to try updating to a later kernel version, and see if you can reproduce it
there.
