yeah, this is a difficult area. I'm on both sides of the fence on this one -
I don't like gratuitous ads in mailing lists meant for other purposes, but
equally Aleph One has a couple of products that are perfectly aimed at the
people on this list (LARTs and the ARMLinux developers guide). I asked
Russell if it was acceptable to post ads/product announcements to
armlinux-announce and he said 'no, not really it's for kernel announcements'
so I didn't post there.
However I agree that -ads lists tend not to work very well because not many
people sign up for pure ads lists (do they?). I suppose I would and John
Dorsey said he would, so maybe it would work but I'd like to think that we
could maintain a policy of 'Suitable announcements can be made on
linux-arm, but repeated ads are not permitted.' So long as anyone getting out
of line is jumped on I've seen this sort of thing work fine. ie
announcements, even purely commercial ones, are allowed so long as they are
clearly relevant and useful.
So whilst I'm here :-) if you want any of
1) (relatively :-) ) cheap Open Hardware StrongARM development boards
2) Book on ARMlinux for developers (covering LART, Assabet, Psion 5 and
generalites)
3) Debian ARMLinux for RISCOS distro
4) Plain Debian ARM CDs
