Well, Z-modem is the easiest way to transfer files.

For ppp I use this on the desktop:

  echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
  pppd /dev/ttyS0 115200 noauth lock proxyarp LOCAL_IP:LART_IP nocrtscts local bsdcomp 
15,15

And this on the LART:

  pppd /dev/ttyS1 115200 noauth lock LART_IP:LOCAL_IP nocrtscts local bsdcomp 15,15 
defaultroute

Be sure that you don't have a getty on /dev/ttyS1. Also note that you
now need some networking clients or daemons on the LART (that's why I
prefer Z-modem on a LART).
